West Kern District Deploys SuperGlue In Record Time

Taft College students work on tablet computers in the library.In yet another Enabling Services and Support (ESS) success story, Taft College of the West Kern Community College District deployed SuperGlue in a single week with minimal impact to campus and district resources.

The deployment — completed in September — was notable for its short time to completion, made even more significant because of inherent resource challenges at smaller districts like West Kern.

Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, CISA, Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2022Given the current IT landscape, it certainly seems appropriate that the month set aside to focus on cybersecurity also ends with All Hallow’s Eve.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has designated “See Yourself in Cyber” as the theme for October 2022.

The theme intends to demonstrate that while the cybersecurity landscape may seem overwhelmingly complex, it’s ultimately really about people and the actions they take.

Accessibility Community Launches for CCC

Photo credit Disability:INA new Accessibility “community of practice” has formed to provide an informal setting for college and district personnel to network, collaborate and share best practices for campus accessibility throughout the California Community Colleges.

Campus accessibility means websites, digital content, procurement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and physical environments are fully and equally accessible to all students, staff, faculty, and visitors. The motivation is that by increasing accessibility, we can increase engagement and enrollment, leading to student success.

ESS Office Hours to Help Colleges Get More from Systemwide Tech

Students line up to enroll at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College.In an effort to increase engagement with the field and help colleges do more with the systemwide technologies and resources available from the California Community Colleges Technology Center, the Enabling Services and Support team has launched an “office hours” series of online training sessions.

The first of these, held Thursday, September 29, focused on boosting student applications using a specific report available to colleges that use the CCCApply system.

Accessible Documents Training Encouraged for CCC Personnel

Technology Center personnel are encouraged to take advantage of this learning opportunity that will help us ensure that documents shared within and outside of the organization support an inclusive environment.

VC Lundy-Wagner Presents at CENIC Conference

The Right Connection: CENIC 2022Digital Innovation and Infrastructure Division Vice Chancellor Valerie Lundy-Wagner represented the California Community Colleges this week at The Right Connection: CENIC 2022, held in Monterey, CA.

Lundy-Wagner was slated to participate in a panel discussion on the topic of broadband equity. “Narrowing the Digital Divide: How to build on higher education broadband” featured speakers from California’s three public higher education systems addressing the role of higher education in supporting the expansion of affordable, high-quality, and equitable broadband access throughout the state.

Butte Student Takes Virtual Moon Mission with NASA

NASA Community College Aerospace ScholarsA very excited Butte College student got to participate in a recent virtual moon mission as part of a program sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Each year, NASA invites community college students across the U.S. to apply for the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars program, which gives students a chance to gain authentic experience in a STEM career field.
