Document Accessibility Tool Available Through CCC Accessibility Center

September 25, 2020

CCC Document Converter, a tool provided by the California Community Colleges Accessibility CenterWhen creating or sharing digital files in the course of our daily work, accessibility isn’t always top of mind. But if the materials are intended to be accessed publicly — whether committee documents, product documentation, presentation slides, videos, or other media — it is our legal obligation to ensure the information meets state and federal requirements related to accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

Luckily for us, our colleagues at the California Community Colleges (CCC) Accessibility Center have recently introduced the CCC Document Converter, an easy-to-use tool to convert files into accessible formats.

An upcoming Accessibility Office Hours webinar will review what the tool enables, and how to access it. All CCC Technology Center staff are welcome and encouraged to attend the webinar. Registration is not required — just click the URL to attend, Thursday, October 1, starting at 1 p.m.

Accessibility Office Hours are typically held twice a month via CCC ConferZoom. Each hour-long webinar focuses on a different IT accessibility issue, and best practices for addressing the issue, including tools or services that are available free to colleges through the Accessibility Center. Some recent topics have included audio and video captioning, website scanning and monitoring, and the Grackle accessibility tool for G-Suite.

The CCC Document Converter is free to use. Though it’s primarily intended for converting instructional materials into accessible formats, it may also be used by Technology Center personnel sharing organizational materials. Files may be submitted via document upload, a URL, or manually entered text for conversion into a host of document, audio, and e-book formats. The converted file is delivered by email.
