DII Division Renamed as IDEA, John Hetts Appointed EVP

June 2, 2022

Dr. John Hetts, exec vice chancellor, Office of Innovation, Data, Evidence and Analytics, California Community Colleges Chancellor's OfficeAs part of an organizational realignment in the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, the Digital Innovation and Infrastructure (DII) Division — which funds projects managed by the CCC Technology Center — has been renamed as the Office of Innovation, Data, Evidence and Analytics (IDEA).

Dr. John J. Hetts (pictured) was appointed executive vice chancellor of the new unit. He will lead the development and delivery of information technology and security services, student-centered technology-focused initiatives, and evidence-based reporting and evaluation, according to a Chancellor’s Office press release.

Dr. Valerie Lundy-Wagner, who in January was appointed to the permanent role of DII Vice Chancellor, will ostensibly report to Hetts.

The Chancellor’s Office realignment created a total of three new units, all of which will report to Deputy Chancellor Daisy Gonzales. The move is intended to better support the desired outcomes of the Vision for Success by strengthening communication and cross-collaboration. The other two new units are:

  • Equitable Student Learning, Experience, and Impact Office — combining the Educational Services and Supports and Workforce and Economic Development divisions, and led by Executive Vice Chancellor Marty Alvarado

  • Institutional Supports and Success Office — combining the College Finance and Facilities Planning, Institutional Effectiveness Partnership Initiative (IEPI) and Government Relations divisions, and led by Executive Vice Chancellor Lizette Navarette

Since 2019, Hetts has served as visiting executive for research and data in the Chancellor’s Office, helping to reimagine the role of data, research, and evidence. He currently represents the Chancellor’s Office as a member of the Governing Board of the State of California Cradle-to-Career System, leads the statewide Student Metrics Advisory Committee, and has served on numerous other statewide committees. More about Hetts’ professional background can be found here.

We at the Tech Center are looking forward to working more closely with Hetts in the coming fiscal year.
