Gonzales Named Interim CCC Chancellor

Dr. Daisy Gonzales, interim chancellor of the California Community CollegesCalifornia Community Colleges Deputy Chancellor Daisy Gonzales has been named to serve as the system’s interim chancellor while the statewide Board of Governors conducts a national search to fill the position on a permanent basis.

Gonzales’ appointment came by unanimous vote of the BOG following the departure of Eloy Oakley on July 31. Her appointment became effective Aug. 1, and is expected to last for up to 12 months.

Madera Community College Wins $1M to Support Adult Ed

The small, rural college was chosen from among 10 finalists as the winner of Lumina’s “Million Dollar Community College Challenge.” The national competition was created to help two-year colleges improve their branding and marketing to adult students.

10 CCCs Chosen for DoD Workforce Project

California Advanced Defense Ecosystems & National Consortia Effort (CADENCE)Ten California community colleges have been selected to participate in a statewide workforce development project funded by the U.S. Department of Defense to support specific areas of defense innovation.

The grant project, known as California Advanced Defense Ecosystems & National Consortia Effort (CADENCE), supports faculty professional development and student internships at California companies involved in microelectronics, wireless technology, cyber space, artificial intelligence and fully networked command, control and communications (FNC3).

Grant for ‘Good Jobs’ in Forestry to Benefit 5 CCCs

American Rescue Plan Good Jobs ChallengeForestry and fire safety workforce training for California college students will get a big boost from a four-year, $21.5 million grant funded through the American Rescue Plan Good Jobs Challenge.

Led by the Foundation for California Community Colleges, the California Resilient Careers in Forestry project will be a coalition of five CCCs — Butte College, Feather River College, Lake Tahoe Community College, Reedley College and Shasta College — as well as California State University Chico, University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources division, and the Sierra Business Council.

SuperGlue Required for CVC-OEI Course Exchange

As communicated by the Chancellor's Office in a recent memo, all colleges must take steps to become a course exchange “teaching college” by next spring — including enabling SuperGlue, the integration framework developed by the California Community Colleges Technology Center.
