MyPath Keeps Students Engaged During Mandated Closures

Example of using CCC MyPath advisor card to communicate COVID-19 informationAmid the COVID-19-related transition to online-only communication, the CCC MyPath student onboarding platform is providing colleges a way to keep students informed and on track while campuses are closed. In addition, as colleges look to the fall semester and begin to predict the challenges they will face, MyPath has many features that colleges can use to facilitate enrollment and engagement.

MyPath has now been adopted at 50 California community colleges, hitting the CCC Technology Center’s sales target for FY19-20. Recent adoptions include the four-campus Peralta Community College District and the nine-campus Los Angeles Community College District. LACCD alone comprises more than 10 percent of student enrollments in the California Community Colleges.

Imperial Valley College is one example of how colleges are utilizing MyPath for student communication related to the COVID-19 health crisis. Imperial collaborated with the Tech Center to add a COVID-19 Advisor Card in its MyPath environment to provide information to students that happen to apply for the summer or fall terms during this unique time. According to Melody Chronister, Information Technology Business Analyst at Imperial, the college chose to use MyPath as the platform for its coronavirus response communication as it is where prospective students automatically land once they have applied via CCCApply. The content card presents critical sources of information from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the California Department of Health, and the CCC Chancellor’s Office, as well as the college’s COVID-19 information page and social media accounts for additional updates.

Similar Advisor Cards can be implemented and customized within one business day for colleges already utilizing MyPath. The Tech Center’s College Relationship Managers (CRMs) have been reaching out to colleges to offer assistance with configuring MyPath to highlight COVID-19 information and other campus and local health resources available to students.

Document Tool Supports Enrollment Process

In addition, as the entire community college system moves online for delivery of education and student services, colleges statewide need an integrated, secure document gathering tool. Colleges that have adopted MyPath have this service in place already.

MyPath’s document gathering feature gives students a secure way to submit required documents online - such as transcripts, proof-of-residency, financial aid, and athletics forms - to continue the enrollment process while campus is closed. It also lets colleges push downloadable forms out to students using the same Advisor Card task approach.

Colleges can elect to present individual students with only the requirements that are relevant to them by utilizing MyPath’s rules engine to display tasks based on information provided in their CCCApply application. Documents can be uploaded in a range of formats, including TXT, PDF, CSV, GIF, JPG, PNG, and DOCX, and uploaded files are automatically scanned for viruses.

Colleges can then retrieve files uploaded by their students via an Amazon WorkDocs account, which is automatically set up for them when they choose to incorporate the document gathering service into their MyPath implementation.
