Tech Center Product Highlights, Q4 2020-21

April 29, 2021

Finish line ahead, hang in thereHeading into the final stretch of the 2020-21 fiscal year, California Community Colleges Technology Center product teams are showing no signs of slowing down.

The fourth quarter looks to be a busy one on all product fronts. Summarized here are highlights from the Q4 Quarterly Milestone Plan Presentations, held March 31.

Student Success Suite

A phased pilot release of the Student Success Suite will begin in Q4, focused on new features to improve the student onboarding experience. Changes include:

  • A new student account creation process in OpenCCC
  • Integration of OpenCCC, CCCApply, and CCC MyPath
  • Common look and feel across all products
  • CCCApply infrastructure deployment enhancements

Pilot release is currently planned for mid-May. Production release will be based on successful integration tests with CCCApply and CCC MyPath, and on feedback from users during the pilot phase.

A March 24 Tech Center webinar attended by more than 225 community college personnel provided a preview of the upcoming release. Additional release support activities are planned including new student-facing and staff-facing help documentation, a video demonstrating the new account creation process, internal staff training, and extensive student testing of the new workflow.

Infrastructure and Data

Systemwide interest in the CCC Data platform is high as colleges look to leverage data in support of institutional improvements and successful student outcomes. A March 10 Tech Center webinar that focused on the types of data available to colleges through the Data Warehouse Report Server was attended by well over 250 college researchers, administrators, and student services personnel.

  • The pilot release of CCC Data 2.1 will include access to Canvas learning analytics. Originally planned for March, the release was delayed to April due to challenges integrating access to Canvas data via direct connection.

  • Meanwhile, Canvas data access through the Data Warehouse Report Server is on hold pending Instructure's recent announcement of a future release for Canvas Data 2, which will dramatically change the data structures of Canvas data. The 2.1 release will also add CCC MyPath and C-ID as data sources, as well as support NOVA and Launchboard access for the Chancellor’s Office.

  • A planned release of the Mulitple Measures Placement Service on the SuperGlue code base hinges on work being done by the California Department of Education and Educational Results Partners. While no firm date has been established, the release is currently expected in Q4.

  • SuperGlue 4.1 release will include support for the Student Success Suite release as well as Ethos/MyPath integration.

Curriculum Management

  • The Course Identification (C-ID) project has tackled more this year than ever, mainly in developing the technical infrastructure. More recent work has focused on the Master Course Form and workflow enhancements, which will be released in C-ID 3.7. Pilot release is on track for mid-June.

  • Chancellor’s Office Curriculum Inventory (COCI) is in a holding pattern for future development, awaiting further direction from the Chancellor’s Office on what priorities are for fiscal 2021-22.

Congratulations to the Tech Center team for all the great effort so far this fiscal year.
