Online Teaching Conference, June 19-21, 2017With just over a week to go until the Online Teaching Conference 2017, registration is quickly selling out. The annual event will run Monday, June 19, through Wednesday, June 21, at the Hilton Anaheim, in Anaheim, Calif.

This year’s program lineup includes keynotes from three higher education innovators, including Eloy Ortiz Oakley, Chancellor of the California Community Colleges; Martha Kanter, head of the national College Promise Campaign; and Renee Franzwa, an authority on higher education at EdSurge.

Monday Keynote

Renee Franzwa, EdSurgeFranzwa will kick off the conference on Monday at 4:30 p.m. with a keynote titled, “What’s Next in Digital Learning?” As Director of Higher Education Strategy at EdSurge, Franzwa explores promising educational technology applications and the evolving landscape for digital learning in higher education. She previously co-founded edtech startup, and has taught at a number of institutions, including UCLA and Stanford.

Tuesday Keynote

On Tuesday, Kanter will take the podium from 8:40 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. with a keynote titled, “College Promise Opportunities: Leveraging Virtual, Blended and Traditional Learning Pathways to Increase Student Success in the 21st Century. Later that morning, Kanter is also scheduled to present a session titled, “Providing the Promise of Access: Going Deeper.”

Martha Kanter, College Promise CampaignKanter was President of De Anza College and then Chancellor of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District for 16 years before being nominated by President Barack Obama in 2009 to serve as the U.S. Under Secretary of Education. In that capacity, she led initiatives to increase college access, affordability, quality and completion. Currently, Kanter serves as Executive Director of the College Promise Campaign, a national effort to make the first two years of college free.

Wednesday Keynote

The final day of the conference will begin with a keynote from Oakley, who became CCC Chancellor in December 2016. His address, “Crossing the Threshold of a New Paradigm,” is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 9:05 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21.

Eloy Ortiz Oakley, California Community Colleges ChancellorOakley, himself a former CCC student, taught at Golden West College, later becoming a community college administrator, and most recently serving as Superintendent-President of the Long Beach Community College District. There, he helped form the nationally recognized Long Beach College Promise program, a partnership with K-12 and four-year institutions that creates structured pathways for students as they move from high school through college.
