California Community Colleges Education Planning InitiativeExploration of possible career paths is one of many options facing California Community Colleges (CCC) students, whether in the process of determining their goals, nearing completion of their studies, or deciding how to use their degree.

As part of its goal to help students make informed choices, clarify goals and plan for success, the CCC Education Planning Initiative (EPI) has partnered with Emsi to make the Career Coach tool available to CCC students. This exciting product will assist students in making smart choices regarding their educational goals.

Structured Pathways To Completion

The EPI has a mission to develop structured pathways provided through a student services portal and education planning system, governance provided by inclusive and multi-tiered committees from across the system, and integrated professional development for student services professionals. The EPI recognizes there is a need to help students clarify their short- and long-term goals, build a structured plan to get there, share that plan so there is accountability, and track their progress with appropriate follow up and guidance.

In order to reach this goal, the EPI will provide a structured pathway to minimize complexity and lead students to successful completion of their goals. As goals and plans are documented, they will be available to counseling and other student services professionals, faculty and the student, so everyone is on the same page: where the student is in regard to their plan, what their next steps are, and how long it will take to reach their goal.

Career Coach Tool

To assist with these objectives, the EPI, with the support of EPI stakeholders and the Student Services Portal Steering Committee, has worked with Emsi to make its Career Coach tool available to CCC students. According to its website, Emsi is “helping colleges meet the needs of their regional economy and drive student success” by providing data and services, such as the Career Coach career exploration tool. Career Coach will allow CCC students to take a simple interest assessment test, explore careers available in California and match those to programs of study in community colleges, at no cost.

Career Coach Webinar
