Myrtle Beach Resort, South Carolina
ASCUE was founded in July 1968 during a meeting at the now closed Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri. IBM had distributed the IBM 1130 computers to several schools to help them automate their business functions and teach students how to use computers. Representatives from the schools met and decided to form a continuing organization College and University Eleven-Thirty Users Group (CUETUG).
The IBM 1130 had mostly fell out of use by 1975, and member schools were requesting to be dropped from CUETUG. The name was changed from CUETUG to ASCUE at the 1975 business meeting and membership was opened to all institutions.
The purpose of ASCUE is now a forum of exchange and international association for people using technology in Education. <>
