The Postsecondary Electronic Standards Council (PESC) has announced that Patrick Perry, Vice Chancellor of Technology, Research and Information Systems (TRIS) for the California Community Colleges (CCC) Chancellor’s Office, will provide a keynote address at the PESC Fall 2010 Data Summit.
Perry will speak in Los Angeles on Monday October 11, 2010 over a joint luncheon and convening of PESC's Fall 2010 Data Summit and the California Virtual Campus' ePortfolio California Project.
As TRIS Vice Chancellor, Perry oversees the collection of unitary student records for the 112-campus California Community Colleges system. He also oversees all CCC systemwide technology initiatives and the Institutional Research unit responsible for all accountability reporting. In this capacity, he has leveraged data matching opportunities with external data sources that have allowed the system to fully capture student demography, progress, transfer movement, peer grouping and wage outcomes to create a comprehensive reporting and accountability framework for two-year institutions and their student populations.
Perry has implemented numerous, centrally-provided technology services to the CCC system, including Internet connectivity, electronic transcripts, e-conferencing services, and a common student application. He was recently appointed by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan to be one of the 15 members of the “Committee on Measures of Student Success” charged with making recommendations on alternate measures of student success and progress for two-year institutions.
The PESC Fall 2010 Data Summit, "Teaming Up for Success,” will be held October 11-12, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. Data Summits are working meetings that focus on development, implementation and overall connectivity. Other topics of interest that impact data systems and standards, access and interoperability are also discussed
All Summit meetings and events are open to all registered attendees. Open collaboration, engaging discussions, awareness of technical resources and best practices, identification of emerging technologies, new business contacts and tips from experts of leading community organizations can be expected.
In continuing its mission of transparent collaboration, PESC is teaming up with the California Virtual Campus (CVC) and co-hosting a day-long track focused specifically on its ePortfolio California project; and co-hosting a luncheon and meeting with service providers on Common Data Standards (CDS).
