ePortfolio California Building Community August 11
Last Updated on Friday, 13 August 2010 Written by Sandoval Chagoya Tuesday, 10 August 2010
ePortfolio California will host a webinar, "Building An Effective Community Of Practice Around ePortfolios", this Wednesday, August 11 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. PST.
ePortfolio California has initiated the design and development of an ePortfolio community of practice. The goal is to support collaboration, communication and other community-building efforts for those involved or interested in exploring ePortfolios, and to promote best practices in using ePortfolios for teaching and learning. The ePortfolio California community of practice will collaborate with other national and international organizations and communities of practice focused on academic ePortfolios.
"We want to make sure that the ePortfolio California community of practice responds to the needs of its participants," said Patty Donohue, program manager for the ePortfolio California project. "So please join us for a lively, roundtable discussion on building a strong and effective community of practice."

Dr. John Ittelson
The webinar will feature Vicki Suter, who oversees the ePortfolio California project as part of her role as Director of the California Virtual Campus, and John Ittelson, Professor Emeritus at California State University, Monterey Bay and nationally recognized leader in the use of ePortfolios for teaching and learning.
"We will be using live chat and polling systems during the webinar to provide an interactive event and heighten collaboration," Donohue said. "We want to hear from our community, and we invite them to help us form a strong foundation for practice centered around the ePortfolio California project."
According to its website, ePortfolio California fosters and supports the development of life-long learning through innovative technology and collaborative education. The aim of the ePortfolio California project is to understand what is required to develop an electronic portfolio (ePortfolio) service with a fiscal and technical model that supports a statewide, scalable and sustainable program for California educational institutions.
ePortfolio California is part of the California Virtual Campus, a project dedicated to serving the needs of distance education students statewide. The California Virtual Campus is funded by a grant from the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office.
The webinar "Building An Effective Community Of Practice Around ePortfolios" will be delivered via CCC confer and will be archived for future viewings. To participate, please see the access information below:
