HTCTU 2010 Summer And Fall Trainings

The High Tech Center Training Unit (HTCTU) has announced its schedule of training courses for summer and fall 2010. Trainings focus on Web accessibility, alternate media and assistive computer technology for students with disabilities.

Trainings are free for California Community Colleges (CCC) staff and faculty, and travel reimbursement is available for CCC Disabled Students Program and Services (DSPS) employees. Colleagues from other education systems and campuses may attend on a space-available basis.

The following training sessions are planned for July:

  • July 21: An Overview of Math Accommodations taught by Gaeir Dietrich & Jayme Johnson
  • July 27: Learning Styles and Cognitive Skills taught by Mya Lerch
  • July 28: Selecting Software for Students with Learning Disabilities taught by Jayme Johnson
  • July 29: System Features of the Kurzweil 3000 taught by Gaeir Dietrich

The CCC HTCTU is a state-of-the-art training and support facility for community college faculty and staff wishing to acquire or improve teaching skills, methodologies and pedagogy in assistive computer technology, alternate media and Web accessibility. The HTCTU supports High Tech Center programs at more than 100 community colleges and satellite centers throughout California. More than ten thousand students with disabilities are enrolled in High Tech Center programs statewide.

The HTCTU works closely with the CCC Chancellor's Office Disabled Students Program and Services (DSPS) program unit. The DSPS program provides support services, specialized instruction, and educational accommodations to students with disabilities so that they can participate as fully and benefit as equitably from the college experience as their non-disabled peers.
