2018-19 CISO Certification Program Announced

2018-19 CISO Certification program announced by the Chief Information Systems Officers Association of the California Community CollegesThe Chief Information Systems Officers Association (CISOA) for the California Community Colleges is currently accepting applicants for the year-long Chief Information Systems Officers Certification Program, which will begin in March 2018.

CISOA would like to encourage interested individuals in your organization to apply for the program. This program is appropriate for practitioners and managers of technology who would like to learn more about leading a technology division in a California community college, while streamlining business processes and enhancing student success through technology integration.

Program Benefits

Participants in the CISO program will:

  • Sharpen skills for a successful career managing information technology in the California Community Colleges
  • Gain recognition as a well informed and knowledgeable Chief Information Systems Officer candidate
  • Expand and enhance technical and leadership skills
  • Network with senior technical leaders for opportunities within the California Community Colleges

2018-19 Program Dates

  • Program Orientation at CISOA Conference: March 18, 2018, Ontario, Calif.
  • 1st Weekend Event: May 18-20, 2018, Sacramento, Calif.*
  • 2nd Weekend Event: Sep 7-9, 2018, Sacramento, Calif.*
  • 3rd Weekend Event: Dec 14-16, 2018, Sacramento, Calif.*
  • Final Seminar at 2019 CISOA Conference: Date and location to be announced

*One weekend event may be scheduled in a Southern California location.

Weekend sessions begin Friday evenings and run through Sunday at noon. In addition, four mentor meetings will be scheduled between mentors and their participants at their convenience.

  • Technology: Architecture Development & Technical Currency
  • Projects: Management & Processes
  • Finance: State Financing to College Budgeting
  • Colleagues: Relationships, Perspectives & Leadership
  • Planning: Strategic to Technology
  • Legal: Laws, Regulations, Policies & Mandates
  • Seminar: Team Project Presentations

Participants’ Commitments

  • Attend three weekend meetings
  • Attend meetings at two conferences
  • Attend four meetings with assigned mentors
  • Complete assigned case studies as homework and participate in class discussions
  • Arrange for payment of the following:
    • Attendance fee ($1,699 for California Community Colleges applicants; $2,000 for all other applicants, non-refundable)
    • All meal, hotel and travel costs (airlines, ground transportation, etc.). The program will provide one lunch during each weekend meeting. Breakfast may be provided through the hotel.
    • 2018 CISOA Conference fee (if attending other conference activities)

Mentoring Component

Each participant works with an assigned mentor to:

  • Receive a review/critique of the participant’s resume
  • Experience a California Community Colleges-style, mock interview for a CISO position
  • Receive networking assistance and general advice to address job challenges

Complimentary 2019 Conference

Participation in the CISO Certification Program includes a complimentary conference pass to the 2019 CISOA Conference.
