Online Teaching Conference Full-Day Workshop

Introduction to Teaching with Canvas
June 19, 2017, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
This @ONE workshop, offered as part of the Online Teaching Conference pre-conference workshop lineup, will introduce participants to teaching using the Canvas learning management system by Instructure. During the workshop, participants will learn how the system works through a series of guided hands-on practice activities.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to use Canvas to: facilitate contact between students and faculty using communication tools, communicate expectations using the online syllabus tool, encourage active learning by presenting content and assignments in a variety of formats, create a course home page that will help students easily navigate and access course content, and give prompt feedback through the use of the speed grader. Register for this workshop.

New Resource: Online Course Design Guide

Online Course Guide is available from @ONE and the Online Education Initiative.@ONE, in partnership with the OEI, is excited to announce the release of the Online Course Design Guide.

This new resource is an open Canvas course that provides examples and helpful information for aligning course design in Canvas to the OEI's Course Design Rubric. Our goal is to provide a collaborative resource that helps everyone implement design choices that enhance student success and assists those who are interested in aligning their courses to the OEI Course Design Rubric to increase student access via the Online Course Exchange.

@ONE and the OEI are developing materials to add to the guide, but we need your great ideas, too! We encourage anyone who has a great example related to a section of the rubric to submit those to us. Examples that meet the criteria of the OEI Course Design Rubric will be added to the guide, providing a rich collaborative resource that benefits both faculty and students.

CCC Canvas Course Design Calls

Connect with @ONE weekly to discover and review the OEI’s Course Design Rubric within the Canvas environment.

Each call will be structured to highlight a section of the rubric for the first 15 minutes. For the remaining 45 minutes, faculty members are invited to speak with an instructional designer from @ONE about setting up and facilitating courses in Canvas. All questions and skill levels are welcome.

  • Section A: Content Presentation
  • Section B: Interaction
  • Section C: Assessment
  • Section D & E: Accessibility & Institutional Accessibility Concerns

PLN Reviewer Recruitment

While many of the PLN resources are not subject to review (e.g., materials related to CCCCO-sponsored workshop, resources developed by CCCCO-funded initiatives), an increasing number of submissions are subject to review, and reviewers are needed. The review process is intended to ensure that resources are useful. It is not a cumbersome process, just a means of ensuring that resources have value.

If you are a faculty member and interested in reviewing, please submit an application to the Academic Senate for CCC. Anyone else, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
