Components of the CCC MyPath student services portal will be discussed in a pre-recorded presentation by the California Community Colleges (CCC) Education Planning Initiative (EPI) to be posted online.
College staff are encouraged to listen to the presentation and then post questions or feedback to the Student Services Portal space on CCCTechnology.info. Look for the recording to be posted in the coming weeks at CCCEdPlan.org.
As part of a webinar series designed to provide additional information on specific aspects of the project, this hour-long pre-recorded session will be presented by EPI team members as well as representatives from several colleges that are providing input into the development of the CCC MyPath portal. Several components of the tool will be explored, including Financial Aid, Online Orientation and Career Coach. These tools, together with the portal’s content pages, will support CCC students as they pursue their educational goals.
CCC MyPath Background
CCC MyPath was developed by the EPI in response to California State Senate Bill 1456. The portal is a component of its mission to establish statewide online systems for CCC students as an expansion of the Service Oriented Architecture platform (OpenCCC) for education planning and degree audit services via a single sign-on student portal. The CCC MyPath student services portal is an important part of the EPI’s planned suite of student-facing tools. It is designed to aid students during the matriculation process and beyond by:
- Acting as a hub for important tools: The portal will serve as the jumping off point for various important student functions, and will collect them in a central location so the student always knows where to find them. CCCApply, the Career Coach career exploration tool and the Starfish Early Alert system are just a few of the important tools that students can launch from the MyPath portal.
- Facilitating communication between institutions and students
- Providing access to content, when that content is relevant
Mike Caruso, EPI Product Manager for CCC MyPath, has a vision of the multiple benefits the portal will provide to the CCC. According to Caruso, CCC MyPath will provide a “centralized workflow tool that connects various components that a student will find useful and can be customized to [a college’s] branding and workflow needs.”
Provided by the EPI and its vendor, Emsi, Career Coach will provide CCC students with the ability to take a simple interest assessment test, explore careers available in California and match those to programs of study in community colleges, at no cost. Career Coach fits within EPI’s Self-Assessment and Career Exploration component and was selected by the Career Explorer Work Group. The Work Group placed a priority that any tool must meet four requirements:
- The tool provides a short assessment
- The tool is accessible
- The tool is secure
- The tool is mobile-friendly
Career Coach assists students in determining which programs would lead to a career that matches their assessment. The presentation will detail this aspect of the tool, as well as its availability at no cost to students and its ability to provide job information and wage expectations.
Other Apps & Content
The presentation will also touch on Financial Aid, Online Orientation, Career Coach, CCC MyPath content pages, Education Planning, and the future of CCC MyPath reporting. EPI will post a recording of this session on its website, CCCEdPlan.org, in May. The presentation will be found under the “Resources” tab, on the “Webinars” page.
