PLN Provides Free Access to IT-Certification Preparation Courses

pln skillsoft1According to the Public Policy Institute of California, the California Community Colleges (CCC) currently offers more online education courses than any other public higher education institution in the nation.

The success in delivering high quality and cost-effective online educational resources is very much dependent upon the ability to provide IT infrastructure, technical support, training and deployment of solutions that enable faculty to create engaging courses, and students to learn from them and be successful in their coursework. Because of this, and many other factors, continuing training for IT staff is a high priority for the CCC and a new outlet has emerged to help – the Professional Learning Network (PLN).

The PLN is a one-stop site for professional development training and resources. An important element of the PLN is the Learn Academy, a place that provides free access to training sites such as Lynda.com, Grovo and now Skillsoft. What is different about Skillsoft is that its focus is on providing IT-related preparatory courses toward specialized IT certifications, such as CompTIA, MCSE and more. These are courses that can cost thousands of dollars outside of the system, and are now provided completely free to all faculty and staff through the PLN.

“We are excited to launch Skillsoft and make this coursework available to the thousands of IT professionals employed by the CCC,” said Michelle DuBreuil, PLN Project Manager. “We hope that it helps our staff and faculty stay on the cutting edge of educational technology offerings.”
