The California Community Colleges (CCC) Education Planning Initiative (EPI) is beginning its conference season by providing stakeholders with information on where to learn more about EPI and how to get involved.
As more tools and services “go live,” remaining informed about the EPI is more vital than ever. With this in mind, the initiative has updated its website to include information on its conference schedule and how interested parties can be involved. It is now easier than ever to hear from those involved in the EPI.
Professional Development Goals
Since 2010, the state of California has taken broad steps to ensure legislative support for student success programs that support California’s college students. Laws that specifically call on the CCC and its Board of Governors to institute electronic planning and electronic transcripts include Senate Bill 1143 (2010), Assembly Bill 1056 (2011) and Senate Bill 1456 (2012).
As indicated by this body of legislation, the government of California has clearly outlined the need for centralized education planning, matriculation and transcript tools that leverage technology on behalf of more than 2.4 million students at 113 community colleges throughout the state. Included is the recognition of the importance of effective professional development for faculty and staff focused on training appropriate, existing personnel in the use of these new tools.
Professional Learning Network
In order to assist with this important goal, the EPI has created a Professional Development page on its website. The page contains a link to the EPI’s page on the Professional Learning Network (PLN). The PLN houses the CCC Chancellor's Office Professional Development resources. These include:
- Effective practices pertaining to basic skills education, career technical education, and other programs
- Topics related to accreditation (including student learning outcomes and integrated planning)
- New employee orientation and training
- How to create robust professional development programs on campus
Event Calendar & Speakers’ Bureau
In addition to a PLN link, the new Professional Development page includes a link to the EPI’s webinar series as well as a calendar of events. This calendar highlights conferences which will contain an EPI presence through the end of July of this year. The calendar provides dates, locations and conference themes for EPI presentations. Finally, the page houses registration for the EPI’s Speakers’ Bureau.
The Speakers’ Bureau is a roster of people who can be called on to share their knowledge and discuss their experiences with EPI products. Members range from industry experts with decades of experience in California community colleges, to local faculty and administrators who have seen the benefits of the Education Planning, Degree Audit and Student Portal products.
If accepted as a member of the Speakers' Bureau, you may be asked to sign a letter to the editor or op-ed, appear at an event, or speak to the news media. You will also be invited to participate in monthly webinars and other training opportunities.
